The German Waterways Authority (WSV) modernizes the locks on the rivers Saar, Moselle and Neckar. Groups of a number of locks each will be remotely controlled from regional control rooms rather than locally. In the scope of these works, communication systems are updated to state-of-the-art solutions. Maintenance and if needed troubleshooting will be carried out by WSV technicians. I carried out the required technical training of WSV technicians on the new IP-based systems in May 2023 on site in their Untertuerkheim and Trier facilities. This enables the WSV technicians to run maintenance on their new systems and exchange and configure equipment or subassemblies for these systems. As a result, high availability for locks and their communication systems is provided for shipping on these inland waterways.
